How a toilet problem is diagnosed
Running, weak flushing, rocking, leaking, and recurring clogs can involve different parts of the fixture or the drain below it. The symptom determines where the inspection starts.
Reproduce the symptom
The technician observes the fill and flush cycle, checks for silent tank-to-bowl leakage, movement at the floor, water at the base, and whether nearby fixtures drain normally.
Inspect the relevant components
Tank parts, supply connection, shutoff, bowl, mounting hardware, wax seal, flange, and drain path are evaluated according to the complaint.
Repair, reset, or replace

Why does my toilet run or refill when nobody used it?
Water is usually leaking from the tank into the bowl because of a worn flapper, flush-valve seal, fill-valve issue, chain problem, float setting, or damaged component. Testing where the water passes prevents replacing every tank part unnecessarily.
Is a toilet that rocks at the floor a serious problem?
Yes. Movement can break the seal, allow wastewater to reach the floor, and damage the flange or surrounding subfloor. Tightening bolts without checking why the toilet moves can crack the fixture or hide a flange, floor, or installation problem.
Why does the tub or shower react when the toilet flushes?
Gurgling or water movement in another fixture suggests the restriction or venting issue may be in a shared branch or main drain rather than inside the toilet. Avoid repeated flushing if wastewater is rising in a tub, shower, or floor drain.
Should I repair or replace a problem toilet?
