Where jetting earns its keep

A drain snake does exactly what it sounds like: it pokes a hole through the blockage. For a one-off clog, that is often all you need, and we will say so. But grease, soap scale, and root intrusion coat the pipe wall, and the line re-clogs from the edges in. Hydro jetting sends high-pressure water through a rotating nozzle that scours the full circumference of the pipe back to bare wall, and takes root mats out with it.

We run a camera before jetting so we know the pipe can take it, older, compromised lines get honest advice instead of pressure, and after, so you can see the result rather than take our word. Jetting is the right call for restaurant and commercial grease lines, recurring main-line clogs, and lines that gurgle again a month after every snaking. It is the wrong call for a collapsed or badly bellied pipe, and we will show you the difference on screen.

Recurring clogs

The same line backing up every few months.

Grease lines

Kitchen and restaurant drains coated to a trickle.

Root intrusion

Root mats cut and flushed out of the line.

Scale & buildup

Decades of deposits scoured back to the pipe wall.

Pre-repair cleaning

A clean line before liner or spot repairs.

Camera verification

Before and after, so the result is visible.

When to call

Jetting is probably the answer if…

  • A snaked drain keeps re-clogging within weeks
  • Multiple slow drains trace to one main line
  • A kitchen line runs slower every month no matter what
  • Roots have shown up in the line before
How the service works

How hydro jetting cleans a drain or sewer line

Hydro jetting is a controlled cleaning method, not the automatic answer to every clog. Pipe condition and the type of buildup need to be understood before pressure is applied.

STEP 01

Inspect the line and access

The technician identifies a suitable cleanout and checks for signs that the pipe is broken, collapsed, badly offset, or too deteriorated for jetting.

STEP 02

Match the setup to the blockage

The hose, nozzle, and cleaning approach are selected for grease, scale, roots, or other buildup rather than treating every line the same.

STEP 03

Clean and verify the result

The line is worked methodically so loosened material moves out of the system. Flow testing, and camera verification when appropriate, confirms whether the line is open and clean.

Diagnosis before recommendation

When hydro jetting is the right tool

Jetting is most useful when the problem coats the pipe or repeatedly reforms after a basic clearing.

Recurring grease or organic buildup

Commercial kitchens and heavily used residential kitchen lines can accumulate material along the pipe wall, not just at one point.

Roots inside a sound line

Jetting can remove intrusive roots and restore flow, but it does not seal the opening they entered through. The damaged joint or pipe may still need repair.

Pipe condition allows cleaning

A structurally failed line is a repair problem. The inspection protects an already compromised pipe from being treated as a routine cleaning job.

Home base + regional coverage

Why the pipe history matters here

Mature landscaping and a mix of older and newer sewer materials mean two neighboring Vancouver homes can have very different causes for the same recurring backup. The cleaning recommendation should follow the line condition, not just the symptom at the drain.

Sent to fix a clog far down the main line that couldn't be reached. Jason was very professional and took care of it, everything's draining like a champ now.

Had a kitchen drain issue and got set up a day later. Jason R. showed up right on time, laid out the options with an estimate, and had it flowing again in no time, no mess left behind.

They came out the same day and unclogged the shower quickly. Jason was extremely kind and helpful. Other places wouldn't even attempt it because of the older pipes.

Hydro jetting questions

Is hydro jetting safe for older drain and sewer pipes?
It can be safe when the pipe material, access, and condition are appropriate, but age alone does not answer the question. A line with severe corrosion, a collapse, an open joint, or another structural weakness may need a different cleaning method or repair first.
How is hydro jetting different from drain snaking?
A drain cable cuts through or retrieves a concentrated obstruction. Hydro jetting directs water through the line to remove broader grease, sludge, scale, and soft root buildup from the pipe wall, making it useful when opening a small path is not enough.
What kinds of clogs can hydro jetting remove?
Hydro jetting is commonly considered for grease, soap residue, sludge, food buildup, and some root intrusion in suitable drain or sewer pipe. It is not a repair for a collapsed line, severe offset, belly, or other structural defect that continues to catch waste.
Do you inspect the pipe before hydro jetting?
The plumber needs enough information about access, pipe material, blockage behavior, and line condition to choose a safe cleaning approach. A camera inspection may be used before jetting when the line can be viewed and structural damage or an unknown obstruction is a concern.
Does hydro jetting repair roots or damaged sewer pipe?
No. Jetting may clear root growth and buildup so the pipe can drain and be inspected, but roots usually enter through an existing opening or failed joint. Repair or replacement is what corrects the structural entry point when one is found.
How long will a hydro-jetted drain stay clear?
That depends on what caused the buildup and whether the pipe itself is sound. A properly cleaned line can stay open much longer than one with continuing grease disposal, root intrusion, poor slope, a low spot, or a damaged section that repeatedly collects debris.
Same clog, third time?
